Abstract : The tribological behavior of the slipping couple ma gnetized brass/steel strongly depends on the gas environment around the tribocontact, the pressure o f gas and the intensity of the magnetic field appli ed around the sliding track. The friction coefficient and wear rate are carried out under three environments: in air, in pure oxygen at 10 5 Pa and in vacuum at 5.10 -4 Pa. The largest friction coefficient it mesured in air. Therefore, the large st wear rate it observed under oxygen. Under vacuum , the process of transfer particles increases the fr iction and the wear rate. The application of the magnetic field modifies the mechanical properties of contact surfaces. It particularly modifies the hardness of contact surfa ces. In ambient air and under pure oxygen, the magnetic field decreases the friction coefficient. However, in vacuum, the influence of the magnetic f ield
