BIOACTIVITY OF Copaifera trapezifolia OLEORESIN AGAINST MULTIRESISTANT BACTERIA

2017
Purpose: To verify the antibacterial potential of the oleoresin extracted from C. trapeziofolia against multiresistant bacteria, namely Staphylococcus aureus (clinical isolate), Enterococcus faecium (clinical isolate), Staphylococcus haemolyticus (clinical isolate), Staphylococcus epidermidis (clinical isolate), and Enterococcus faecalis (clinical isolate), isolated from patients and provided by the microbiology laboratory of the Hospital das Clinicas of the Medical School of Ribeirao Preto/USP Methods: The activity of the oleoresin against the target bacteria was determined by Minimum Inhibitory Concentration (MIC) and minimum bactericidal concentration (MBC) assays. Results : The oleoresin extracted from C. trapeziofolia displayed promising action against E. faecalis , S. epidermides , and E. faecium . MIC values of 100 and 50 μg/mL were achieved for E. faecalis and S. epidermidis , respectively. MIC was 200 μg/mL for S. haemolyticus and 400 μg/mL for S. capitis and S. aureus . As for MBC values, the oleoresin exerted bactericidal effect on S. aureus and bacteriostatic action on the other tested bacteria. Conclusion: The oleoresin from C. trapeziofolia presents promising activity against the multiresistant E. faecalis , S. epidermidis , and E. faecium .
