The Uruguayan Women and Their Memories on the Plebiscite of the NO of 1980.

n During the nineteen eighties, Uruguayan women resume the struggle for their specific causes and began to define their own agenda. The triggering point can be found on the 1980 constitutional referendum vote summoned by the Army, when women adopted a stronger role against the dictatorship. Along with other sectors of the society, women oriented their glaze towards their own civic needs. As part of a larger research project as well as the result of several personal interviews, this article focus on the subjective meaning of the NO result of the 1980 vote. When we hear their own voices, we can confirm that women have several important issues to discuss about that period, from which only male protagonists, military and political, have prevailed.
