Subsalt Imaging Through the Acquisition of Full-Azimuth Broadband Data with Extra-long Offsets

2014
We present a deployment of a full-azimuth, extra-long offset broadband acquisition design using staggered multi-vessels navigating straight lines with streamers towed in a variable depth configuration aimed at improving the complex imaging of the subsurface, such as the subsalt in the Gulf of Mexico. The high spatial and temporal resolution combined with low frequency and extra-long offset penetration creates the condition for the subsalt imaging success: high-resolution velocity model building and improved focusing of seismic energy below the salt.
