Subthreshold K/sup +/-meson production on multiquark configurations in nuclei

K/sup +/-meson production in pA collisions at energies below the threshold for pp collisions is studied. The colored string dynamics can be used to relate the cross section for K/sup +/-meson production on multiquark clusters to the cross section for K/sup +/ production on a nucleon target at above-threshold energies. Upper limits on the admixture of multiquark clusters in nuclei are obtained from a comparison with the experimental data.
