Teensad@change: uma proposta de investigação à eficácia de diferentes terapias à perturbação de ansiedade social na adolescência = Teensad@change: A proposal for investigating the efficacy of different therapies for social anxiety disorder in adolescence

2021
Social anxiety is evident in adolescence. It can escalate to social anxiety disorder (SAD) which, in the absence of specialized help, often lasts into adulthood. Thus, an early and evidence-based intervention is needed to change the course of SAD in adolescence. A sample of adolescents with PAS (n ᵙ 85) will be recruited and will be distributed across four conditions (i.e., waiting list, cognitive therapy, compassion-focused therapy and acceptance and commitment therapy); all will be evaluated by self-report instruments on central constructs to each of the therapies in four moments (i.e., pre-intervention, post-intervention, follow-up at 12 weeks and follow-up at 24 weeks). All therapies are expected to promote symptom improvement more evident than that manifested in the waiting list group. It is expected that, for each therapy, the change in social anxiety from pre- to post-intervention will be mediated by constructs that are central to it. Finally, the role of moderators of change (e.g., sex, initial level of symptomatology) will be analyzed to determine which therapy works best with whom. This investigation will provide information on which therapy may constitute the treatment of choice in PAS, and when dealing with several specific vulnerabilities, contributing to the investigation of empirically validated therapies, with a specific focus on adolescence.
