Effect of Manganese on Steel: Literature Report No. 3

The introduction and development of alloy steels resulted from an endeavour to improve ordinary carbon steel to produce material having comparable strength and hardness, together with ductility, toughness, shock and impact resistance and good fatigue values. Recent developments include the wider application of alloys steel for constructional and engineering purposes, production of heat-resisting steels and alloys, and the superhardening of steel and its application in general engineering. In this paper the results obtained by various investigation on the effect of addition of manganese on the properties of steel have been reviewed.
