Converter for production of steel

PURPOSE: To enhance productivity and to shorten a charging time by using self-consuming electrodes for heating means and forming refining means of an independent oxygen-blowing lance and tuyeres located below the melt bath level. CONSTITUTION: The oxygen-blowing lance 9 is projected to the center in a smelting vessel 1 from above. Plural pieces of the self-consuming graphite electrodes 11 are projected to a position 10 alongside the oxygen-blowing lance 9. The bottom 14 of the smelting vessel 1 is provided with a bottom flash tuyere 15 and further the tuyeres 17 for introducing oxygen are located at the bottom 14 and at the level below the ordinary melt bath level 16. Primary smelting is executed without the electrodes 11 and the additionally charged raw materials are melted by using the electrodes 11 and are completely smelted. The simultaneous operation of the smelting means 9 and 17 and the electrodes 11 is possible. COPYRIGHT: (C)1995,JPO
