The invention relates to a method and a device used for indicating faults. The device comprises an acquiring module, a retrieving module and a presenting module, the acquiring module is used for acquiring internal fault codes of the faults of vehicle parts on a vehicle, the retrieving module is used for retrieving glittering codes mapped with the acquired internal fault codes from a mapping relationship between the internal fault codes, of the faults, prestored in the vehicle parts and the glittering codes, and the presenting module is used for presenting the retrieved glittering codes to indicate the faults. By the method and the device, types and reasons of the faults can be acquired in a low-cost manner without leaking product information of the vehicle parts.
