Formation of a multiphase disperse structure in hydrogen-bearing titanium upon shear strain under pressure

1999
The structural transformations in alloys of the titanium-hydrogen system were studied after large shear strain at a pressure of 8 GPa. Due to such treatment, a fine-grained strongly misoriented structure with fragments 50-100 nm in size forms and an α-ω phase transformation, whose intensity decreases with increasing hydrogen concentration, occurs. The role of hydrogen in the refinement of different structural components under the conditions of intense loadings and high pressures is discussed.
