Thallium content in human bodies in the Xiangquan thallium mineralized district and its environmental significance

2007
In order to study the influence of thallium deposit on local people, urine and hair of villagers in the Xiangquan thallium mineralized district are collected and detected. Results show that the average thallium content in urine of Xiaoshanjing villagers is 1.76 μg/L,which is higher than that of the healthy people and the ordinary villagers in the nonmineralized district, and that the average thallium content in hair of Xiaoshanjing villagers is 3.13 μg/kg,which is similar to that of most healthy people. It is concluded that thallium in ores in the Xiangquan thallium mineralized district has not gone into the environment in a large amount, that the amount of thallium in the Xiaoshanjing villagers′ bodies through food chains is still in the normal range, but some sign of thallium pollution has appeared in the villagers near the deposit. This study also indicates that the thallium content in human hair is not the characteristic sign of thallium pollution.
