Analysis on the thermal radiation flux from the pool fire of dome roof tank by the point source model

The paper is inclined to introduce our analysis and discussion of the relationship between the horizontal thermal radiation flux and the total thermal radiation flux as well as the effect of the tank diameter on calculating results of thermal radiation flux by the point source model.The comparison on the thermal radiation flux from the crude oil pool fire between experimental data and calculating data given by the point source model suggests the total thermal radiation flux by the method of point source at the tank wall proves more reliable. From the thermal radiation flux produced by the gasoline,kerosene and diesel dome-roof tank of the nominal typical dimension by the point source model,it can be thought that the coverage of the thermal radiation by considering the point source located at the tank wall tends to be larger than that at the tank center,i.e.the affecting radius of the thermal radiation flux from the tank center in accordance with that from the tank wall horizontally moving a tank radius towards the tank. It is for this reason that this horizontal movement remarkably reduces the total thermal radiation flux at the tank height level.Thus,the method of the point source at the tank wall is proposed concerning the calculation of the thermal radiation flux from the tank pool fire by using the point source model.The maximum horizontal thermal radiation flux can be worked out in a range from 7.39 kW·m~(-2) to 14.70 kW·m~(-2) whereas the total maximum horizontal thermal radiation flux ranges from 18.75 kW·m~(-2) to 38.08 kW·m~(-2) for gasoline, kerosene and diesel pool fire of the dome roof tank at the tank height level,respectively,while the maximum thermal radiation flux is below 5 kW·m~(-2) for horizontal and below 13 kW·m~(-2) for the total at 1.75 m height,respectively.The calculation results of the thermal radiation flux from the gasoline tank pool fire are recommended for hazard discussion of the thermal radiation from the tank pool fire and fire safety design of the tank because of the little difference of thermal radiation flux among the three kinds of oil:gasoline,kerosene and diesel.The maximum thermal radiation flux is 16.96 kW·m~(-2) at the minimal separation distance and at the tank height level for 1 000 m~3 gasoline dome roof tank while 18.42 kW·m~(-2) for 10 000 m~3.The physical explosion may occur whenever an adjacent tank is exposed at the thermal radiation flux rate for too long.
