Non-destructive detection of peach(Prunus persica) fruit volatiles using an electronic nose

2012
【Objective】In order to study differences in volatiles of peach fruit using non-destructive technology,【Method】fruits of 19 peach varieties were harvested at commercial maturity and fruit volatiles were analyzed using a FOX 4000 electronic nose(e-nose) equipped with 18 metal oxide sensors.【Result】Based on fruit volatiles measured by the e-nose,response values of LY2/LG,LY2/AA,LY2/GH,LY2/gCT1 and LY2/gCT sensors were negative, while those of the other 13 sensors were positive.Tested peach fruit samples could be separated into four groups by the e-nose using discriminant factor analysis(DFA),however,no clear difference was found based on principal component analysis(PCA),while statistical quality control(SQC) results showed differences in fruit volatiles among peach fruit samples.Loading weight of the sensors in the PCA was different from those of the DFA.【Conclusion】The results suggested that the e-nose could be used to evaluate volatile quality of peach varieties using DFA and SQC.
