Development Method, Manufacturing Process of Fibre Reinforced Polymer Composite Type Helical Springs: A Review

2021
In the current automotive generation, a need has arisen to reduce the vehicle weight in order to achieve an increased fuel efficiency and be complaint to emission regulations. Reducing the weight of the coil spring is one way to achieve the lowered vehicle weight. Springs made of steels are generally used in vehicles. In this study, springs made of fibre reinforced polymer composite’s physical behaviour is investigated. The load-carrying capacity doesn’t get affected much due to the FRP composite spring material. The advantages of such spring being lower stresses, high relative energy absorption rate, higher strength/weight ratio and high stiffness. The aim of this study is to assess the design of the FRP composite spring, its analysis followed by fabrication of the spring.
