A new index in vehicular ad-hoc networks connectivity analysis based on generalized packet loss rate model

2016
Connectivity analysis in vehicular ad-hoc networks plays an important role in the research of intelligent vehicle infrastructure cooperative systems. However, in some condition, the connectivity of VANETs can be deadly spoilt by unstable wireless networks performance, and sometimes the packet loss rate between car to car communication can reach a considerably high percentage. Thus, the hypothesis of fixed transmission range of car to car communication is no longer appropriate for accurate connectivity analysis. In this paper, a generalized packet loss rate model is introduced to connectivity analysis in stead of using a fixed value as transmission range. We focus on the average range of clusters and derive the analytical expression of this new index. Simulation results are also further presented to verify the theoretical result.
