Electrical Therapy of Arrhythmias

Pacing, cardioversion, and defibrillation may be used separately or in sequence for the termination of certain cardiac arrhythmias. Each is presently available in the form of an implantable device for longterm tachycardia therapy. The purpose of this article is to review the current applications and future directions of these new modalities.
