The invention provides a method and system for charging an electric vehicle, a charger and a BMS (battery management system) communication module. A reliable communication mode is established between a vehicle BMS and the charger through message communication shaking so as to finish parameter configuration. The vehicle BMS monitors the charging state of a battery in real time in the charging process and sends the message of the charging state of the battery to inform the charger of regulating charging voltage and current, thus improving the charging efficiency, ensuring the safe and reliable charging and reaching the best charging effect. In the charging process, preset charging conditions are utilized to judge whether the charging of the battery is over, thus the charging of the battery can be stopped automatically in accordance with charging end conditions when the charging of the battery is ended or the charging process is required to suspend due to other situations, thus improving the use flexibility. Statistical data messages are sent after the charging is ended, thus acquiring detailed data on the whole charging process and being convenient to carry out follow-up detection or debugging.
