Legg-Calve-Perthes

2017
Legg-Calve-Perthes disease is an avascular event that causes collapse of the proximal femoral epiphysis. This condition occurs in children between the ages of four and twelve. Children often present with a limp that is painful with activity. The child will have decreased internal rotation and abduction. Radiographically this can be followed and usually progresses through four stages. Young patients and those with minimal collapse can be treated nonoperatively, while those older patients with moderate to severe collapse often need osteotomies of the proximal femur, acetabulum, or both.
