The content of inflammatory cytokines in serum of rats with type II collagen-induced arthritis

2006
Objective To investigate the serum levels of interleukin-1β (IL-1β),tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α),interleukin-4 (IL-4) and interleukin-10 (IL-10) in rats with type Ⅱ collagen-induced arthritis. Methods Grade-Ⅱ male Wistar rats were randomly divided into 2 groups, control group and model group. The rat model was established by subcutaneouly injecting bovine nasal cartilage Ⅱ collagen. The serum levels of IL-1 β,TNF-α,IL-4 and IL-10 were determined by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay in 2 groups. Results 7 weeks after the immunization, the serum levels of IL-1β and TNF-α were significantly higher than those of the control group (P0.01),and the concentration of IL-10 was remarkably lower (P0.01).There was no significant difference in the activity of IL-4 between control group and model group (P 0.05).Conclusion The imbalance of cytokine network relates with the pathogenesis in the rat with collagen-induced arthritis.
