Tumor de Wilms. Características clínicas y resultados del tratamiento

Introduction: The prognosis of patients with Wilm’s tumor has improved, especially those with favorable histologic pattern or early stages, while the unfavorable histology are even reduced. The purpose of this work was to analysis, the clinical features and answer to treatment in a group of patients with Wilm’s tumor. Material and methods: This is a retrospective study that analysis the clinical features, histopathology, surgery, treatment response and disease-free survival of 20 clinical cases encountered over a period of 10 years. Results: 60% of the cases were male with a mean age of 3.5 years. 70% had favorable histopathology and 30% were settled in late stages (III-IV). In 9 patients (45%) underwent chemotherapy before biopsy and tumor resection. Disease-free survival at 5 years, favorable histology group was 72% and unfavorable histology group was 34%. Conclusions: Diagnosis of Wilm’s tumor has been made in late stages, as it happens in our environment. It is clear that we have to implement mandatory actions, to make an opportune diagnosis, and as a result a feasible treatment in early stages.
