NEW ULTRASONIC SCANNER FOR INSPECTION OF AUSTENITIC STEEL

The preferred grain orientation which occurs in austenitic welds affects ultrasound propagation and therefore has to be taken into account when such materials undergo ultrasonic inspection. A versatile new ultrasonic scanner and advanced methods of inspection have been developed at UKAEA's Harwell Laboratory to overcome these problems. (Atom, July 1988).
