Deliverable 2.2: « Description of the best practices of construction useful for other transportation modes and identification of common research needs » (Forever Open infrastructure across (X) all transport modes (FOX), H2020 Coordination and Support Action)

2016
The FOX project aims at identifying the potential and developing the functionality of all transport modes (road, air, rail and water) in order to form a holistic transport system for the future. The project started with the exploration of the state-of-the-art research and practices for all the single aspects of the life-cycle of transport infrastructure regarding construction, maintenance, inspection and end of life of the material. This work is executed in the four technical Work Packages: Construction (WP2), Maintenance (WP3), Inspection (WP4), Recycling & Reuse (WP5). Each Work Package is divided into three main steps. First of all, a state-of-the-art of cross-modal infrastructural research to be investigated is performed. It aims at highlighting the issues related to each method/technology and trying to identify methods which can be transferred to other modes. In a second step, the most promising methods for cross-modal development are identified and deeply analysed. The third step focuses on the development of a roadmap for future research, development and implementation initiatives across the four modes. This report is related to the second step of the project and focuses on 'Construction' (WP2). Its main objective is to identify the most promising construction methods for infrastructure useable in at least two or more transport modes to allow for the creation of a cross-modal research roadmap in the last phase of the project (Task 2.3).
