Synthesis, structure and magnetic properties of hexakis(.mu.-tert-butoxo)bis(perfluoro-tert-butoxo)tetracopper and tetrakis(.mu.-tert-butoxo)bis(perfluoro-tert-butoxo)tricopper

The reaction of amoderate excess of perfluoro-tert-butyl alcohol (H[PFTB]) with [Cu(OCMe 3 ) 2 ], in hydrocarbon solvents affords two primary products, Cu 4 (μ-OCMe 3 ) 6 [PFTB] 2 (1) and Cu 3 (μ-OCMe 3 ),[PFTB] 2 (2), with their relative amount determined by the reaction stoichiometry. Compound 1 is purified by recrystallization, and 2 is isolated by sublimation of a mixture of 1 and 2
