Recent advancement in photo nanotheranostics for cancer treatment

Abstract In the last three decade, rapid development has been observed in the field of medical application of nanostructures. Nanostructures have unique properties compared to bulk material and these can be specially used in light-triggered nanotheranostics (LTNs). LTN are highly used in cancer treatment especially from a therapeutic point of view. LTNs have lots of advantages compared to traditional therapy as it can be used in a controlled and targeted way. Generally, for LTN organic dyes, semiconducting polymers, inorganic nanomaterials, metal chalcogenides, and carbon nanotubes are used. LTNs consume less time, extend low toxicity, deliver targeted drugs delivery, and reduce the side effect in cancer treatment from a therapeutic point of view. Considering the importance and advantage of nanotheranostics, lots of powerful LTN have been designed. The multidimensional specific functions of LTNs with lower costs and usefulness surely will place a unique impact on cancer management in the upcoming days.
