The effect of Olanzapine on cognitive function in schizophrenia

Objective: To research the efficacy of Olanzapine on cognitive function in schizophrenia.Methods: 55 patients with schizophrenia who met DSM-IV were treated with Olanzapine for 6 weeks.The Positive and Negative Symptom Scale(PANSS) and Cognitive function test were used to evaluate efficacy before and at the end of 6 weeks of treatment respectively.Cognitive functions test including digital symbol,digit span test(go back,back),and the semantic fluency test.Compare PANSS total scores,factor score and cognitive function score before and after the treatment.Results: After 6 weeks treatment,the total scores of PANSS and positive symptoms,negative symptoms points,general psychopathology and semantic fluency were significantly improved(P 0.05).Conclusion: Olanzapine can improve cognitive dysfunction in schizophrenia.
