Engineering a flexible access instruction program in engineering dynamics

1999
This paper reports on the prospects and aspects of a flexible learning environment. A computer was found to provide one possible option for developing a flexible environment. With the help of a computer, a Flexible Access Instruction Program was to be designed and developed. This FAI was customised to suit the needs of the students in learning the concepts of Engineering Dynamics. The proposed topic of Impulse and Momentum in first year Engineering Dynamics was chosen for the development and implementation of the FAI program. The reason for having to develop a flexible learning environment is discussed, this itself being problem solving in the area of designing a flexible access instruction. The need for this type of instruction is also part of the adaptive learning environment that is still under development at RMIT, in the Department of Aerospace Engineering.
