Strained layer superlattices
1984
Recent developments have opened up a new field of mutliple layer semiconductors, experiments having shown that with 'strained layer superlattices' the limitation on their construction of 'lattice matching' - the need to have each crystalline layer with virtually the same atomic lattice constants - disappears. Problems with electronic properties are also removed; indeed, specific electronic and optical properties can be tailor-made in these very thin layered sandwich structures.
