Configuration of Three-phase to Eleven-phase Power Transformer

2018
In this paper, the windings configuration of three-phase to eleven-phase power transformer is proposed. Using an optimization technique, Genetic Algorithm (GA) to produce a suitable power conversion with a fixed frequency. The root mean square error (RMSE) criteria is used to minimize the error between the desired eleven-phase output system and the obtained eleven-phase system based on the algorithm. A second criteria is adopted to reduce the number of windings used, which means reducing the construction complexity. The algorithm gives the windings that should be used to create the eleven-phase or multi-phase system and how the windings are connected. For an application, the turn ratio of the windings and their arrangement were found for three-phase to eleven-phase conversion. The simulation of three-phase to eleven-phase transformer has been carried out using the Matlab$\backslash $ Simulink interface. Where it shows the possibility to create a balanced eleven-phase system at the output of the transformer by an appropriate arrangement of windings. The presented approach has the advantage of avoiding the analytical calculation when searching the windings configuration for a large number of output phases.
