The mid-term results of edge to edge mitral valve repair for anterior mitral leaflet prolapse

2008
Objective To exmine the the mid-tarm resulats of edge-to-edge mitral valve repair for anterior mintral leaflet prolapse. Methods From August 1999 to July 2007,one hundred and twenty-eight patients underwent edge-to edge mitral valve repair.Early outcomes and mid-tarm results were evaklated. Results There was no operative death and severe morbidity. The mean follow-up was 46.8 months(range 1 to 97 months). There were late deaths. The actuarial overnll survival and freedom from reoperation were 96.4%and 96.9%,respectively.At follow-up the mean mitral valve area was(2.45±0.70)cm2 mitral regurgitation was absent or mild in 120 patients (93.8%).Severe miitral regurgitation was determined on five patients(3.9%)and four of them underwent mitral valve replacement.Three patients(2.3%)were found mild mitral stenosis.Comparing of preoperativ and postoperative echocardiograms, the left ventrcular end-diastolic dimentsion decreased significantly from(57.9±9.0)mm to(48.6±7.6)mm (P<0.05),but no fifference in ejection fraction(0.61±0.08 vs.0.60.4±0.06,P=0.03).Nirety-four percent of patients were in Neww York Heart Association classes I postoperaticely. Conclusion Edge-to-edge technque is an effective method with low risk for anterior mitral leaflet prolapse.Long-term follow-up is requred to evaluate the durability of this technifque.
