An Observer Controller for an Active Magnetic Bearing System Exhibiting Unbalanced Mass

2014
An Active magnetic bearing (AMB) system supports a rotating shaft, by using electromagnetic forces, requiring no physical contact. In this study, an observer controller is proposed the displacement of rotor in the air gap of an AMB system. The controller was designed using pole placements and an observer controller to estimate the states that could not be measured or were affected by noise. Regarding the simulation of the controlled system, a MATLAB toolbox was used. The simulation results for the state variable and rotor displacement were satisfactory. This method can be applied to improve the control of nonlinear systems. This controller also satisfies the requirements of real-time response and stability for use in systems exhibiting unbalanced mass disturbances.
