Study on changes of S-100 and GFAP of nerve cells in human brain after brain contusion by immunohistochemical method

For the purpose of studying changes of S-100 and GFAP of nerve cells in human brain after brain contusion,38 cases were studied by the immunnohistochemistry combined with quantitative image analysis.The results showed that the grey degree and the area of S-100 positive cells increased 48 hours after brain injury and reached to the maximum on the 4th day.Since then it decreased.GFAP positive cells increased significantly 12 hours after brain contusion and reached to the maximum on the 4th day and kept at the high level until the 7th day.The results suggest that the changes of S-100 and GFAP during the different intervals were regular.So that,both S-100 and GFAP can te used as markers of brain contusion in the interval of 2~20 days after brain contusion
