Computer-Aided Neuromyography with Repetitive Stimuli for Diagnosis of Facial Nerve Disorders

1994
Different diagnostic methods were used to classify lesions of peripheral nerves, especially the facial nerve in ENT patients. In addition to clinical aspects and anamnesis, two further diagnostic steps should be pointed out: examination of tear secretion, stapedial reflex, and gustatory sensation for topodiagnostic questions as well as neurophysiological tests such as nerve excitability test (NET), maximal stimulation test (MST), electromyography (EMG), and neuromyography (NMG) to differentiate neurapraxia, axonotmesis, and neurotmesis.
