The celebrity politician : budskap om feminism och identitet inom internationell politik

2015
What happens when celebrities engage themselves politically and how do they handle the criticism that they do not have the essential expertis to become political representants? In my study I want to answer those questions and further analyse how the public reacts to the rhetoric of celebrity politicians. I have therefore analysed Emma Watson’s speech where she launched the UN-based ”HeforShe-campaign, a campaign Emma Watson represents. In this speech Emma Watson refers to some scientific studies to prove her worth as a political leader. But is is through her use of identitypolitics in her rhetoric arguments where she truly convinces the audience of her political worth. The theories I use to answer my questions are based on John Street’s theory of ”celebrity politicians”, so I can define Emma Watson’s political position, and I also refer to Henrik Bang’s theory of identitypolitics and ”Everyday Makers” to understand the format of the message and how Emma Watson creates an atmosphere of political activsm within the audience.
