Thermal behavior of high speed steel work rolls in the finishing stands of a hot strip mill

1997
A transient thermal model was used to assess the thermal performance of high speed steel work rolls in a hot strip mill. The model showed a spray positioned close to the roll bite can reduce strip surface temperature by more than 100°C and lower the driving force for heat transfer in the roll bite.
