Estudo sobre as teses de fim de curso da Faculdade de Medicina e Cirurgia de São Paulo, 1918 e 1930

This article aims to contribute to the history of medical teaching in Sao Paulo, focusing on academic productions in gynecology in the early 20th century in Sao Paulo. In order to do this, academic theses were analyzed as important sources to understand the scientific production at that time. I have researched the catalog of theses from Faculdade de Medicina de Sao Paulo, of Universidade de Sao Paulo (available on Univeridade de Sao Paulo’s website Dedalus), which provides information about the undergraduate theses produced between 1918 and 1930. The results presented in this article aim to contribute to the studies about the medical course of Faculdade de Medicina de Sao Paulo and the constitution of gynecology as a mandatory discipline of medical graduation. In analyzing the field of gynecology, I intend to demonstrate which research themes were chosen by medical students and understand if those studies dialogued with common health issues faced by women who lived in Sao Paulo. Thus, I simultaneously analyzed the theses and the information from statistical and demographic yearbook, produced by the authorities of Sao Paulo state.
