Transmission Errors in Screen-Camera Link System

2021
During the last decade various visible light communication (VLC) systems are vastly spreading and evolving to the more user-friendly data transmitting ecosystems with complex dedicated hardware utilisation less needed. We developed a simplex data transmission system based on a LED screen of smartphone Samsung S10e and a conventional web-camera Logitech C920 as a VLC transmitter and a receiver, respectively. Encoding/decoding algorithms, mobile and PC software and protocols for data transfer were developed. The system transferred data as follows: (i) depending on the data package, the developed mobile application generated multicolour unique patterns; (ii) patterns were displayed on the smartphone screen that was pointed to the receiver; (iii) the receiver captured the images of patterns; (iv) the patterns parameters including the distinct colour of each particle of the pattern were analysed by PC; (v) PC restored the transfer data, according to the results of the analysis process. The transmitted data package was pseudo random binary sequence (PRBS) and the data transfer speed was 50 kbit/s. The mean correct identification of the patterns colour particles was 99,64%. We managed to determine the correlation between the captured colours and the correct identification percentage of particles. The colours identifications as the functions of the values of dynamic range and 2000–6000К white-colour balance set on web-camera are presented.
