Objective Fusion Metrics

Objective evaluation of image fusion algorithms is crucial in image fusion research. However, it is a challenging task. One of the main reasons for this is that unlike other quantitative metrics, like PSNR and RMSE which depend on reference and output images, fusion metric needs to consider information from more than one source images and output image for quantitative assessment. In the literature, notable fusion metrics are proposed by considering these requirements. In this chapter, new fusion metrics will be introduced after discussing advantages and drawbacks of the traditional methods.
