Comportamiento de las infecciones bacterianas dermatológicas y resistencia antimicrobiana en Hospital Carlos J Finlay

2021
Introduction: Skin infections are a group of clinical pictures of varying forms of expression and severity which affect the skin and subcutaneous cell tissue. They are the most prevalent infections in our environment, and therefore one of the first reasons for antibiotic prescription. Objectives: Characterize the most frequent bacterial skin infections at Carlos J. Finlay Hospital and their antimicrobial resistance. Methods: A cross-sectional observational descriptive study was conducted of 262 patients undergoing bacteriological testing at Carlos J. Finlay Hospital in Havana during the year 2016. Results: The most common pyogenic infections were boils and secondary pyoderma with 23.6% and 20.9%, respectively. The prevailing germs were coagulase positive Staphylococcus and Klebsiella , in that order, both of which displayed antimicrobial resistance to 10-12 drugs. Conclusions: The number of patients with pyoderma lesions displaying antimicrobial resistance was higher than the mean reported in the literature.
