Dependence of Detonability of Emulsion Explosive Based on Ammonium Nitrate on Porosity

The detonability of the emulsion explosive based on ammonium nitrate sensitized with glass microspheres has been studied. It has been confirmed that the dependence of the critical diameter of detonation on porosity (density) may be U-shaped with a low content of an inert additive. Analysis of the data obtained and those available in the literature has shown that the dependences of the critical diameter both on porosity and on the distance between the centers of the microspheres can be described with good accuracy by simple algebraic equations with one numerical coefficient that is individual for each emulsion explosive.
