Elaboraçao de um vocabulário taxonómico sobre História Medieval portuguesa: problemas e desaios

EnglishWe are presenting a domain taxonomy of Portuguese Medieval History (12th-15th centuries) that was pre-pared within the scope of a doctoral research work and based on an interdisciplinary approach. The preparation of this taxonomic vocabulary seeks to fill a gap in terms of the representation of information of digital resources, namely the ones contained in spe-cialized databases, which are currently seen as cru-cial vehicles for disseminating and sharing open-access scientific knowledge. So, its main goals are: to test methods that have already proven successful in various case studies to design, develop and maintain domain taxonomies; to organize and represent spe-cialized sources of information, in order to allow re-covering it in a consistent and uniform way; to reflect on the potential of this type of controlled vocabulary, particularly for the organization of digital resources. In order to build this taxonomy we used a top-down, or general-to-specific, method. We present and catego-rize the 17 categories that compose the taxonomy. With regard to the conclusions, there is an emphasis on issues related to the size and depth of the different categories. Finally, we reflect on the future develop-ments of this taxonomy, especially on its ontological development. portuguesApresenta-se uma taxonomia de dominio sobre Histo-ria Medieval Portuguesa (seculos XII-XV), cuja elabo-racao se enquadra no âmbito de uma tese de douto-ramento de indole interdisciplinar. A elaboracao deste vocabulario taxonomico procura colmatar a necessi-dade de indexar recursos digitais, em particular os contidos em bases de dados especializadas, conside-radas hoje veiculos fundamentais para a dissemina-cao e distribuicao da producao cientifica em acesso aberto. Por conseguinte, os principais objetivos da taxonomia sao: verificar os metodos ja comprovados com exito em estudos de caso para projetar, desen-volver e manter taxonomias de dominio; organizar e representar informacao da especialidade, de forma a recupera-la de forma consistente e coerente; refletir sobre as potencialidades deste tipo de vocabulario controlado, nomeadamente no que respeita a organi-zacao de recursos digitais. Para a construcao da taxonomia optou-se, de forma geral, pelo metodo descendente, isto e, partiu-se do generico para o especifico (top-down). Apresentam-se as 17 catego-rias que compoem a taxonomia. Como conclusoes, destacam-se as questoes relacionadas com a exten-sao e profundidade das categorias suas constituintes. Por fim, reflete-se sobre o desenvolvimento futuro da taxonomia, em especial no que concerne ao seu tratamento ontologico.
