Resin composition for water-repellent coating

1978
PURPOSE: To obtain a resin composition having excellent water repellency and excellent water resistance as well as high durability by adding a wax to an aqueous dispersion of the emulsion copolymerization products of a hyrophobic alpha,beta- monoethylenic unsaturated monomer and an alpha,beta-monoethylenic unsaturated carboxylic acid. CONSTITUTION: An aqueous dispersion(A) obtained from the emulsion copolymerization of a monomer mixture consisting of 30wt% or more a hydrophobic alpha,beta-monoethylenic unsaturated monomer of a water solubility of 0.3wt% or less/25°C and 0.1W10wt% an alpha,beta-monoethylenic unsaturated carboxylic acid capable of copolymerizing with the foregoing monomer is mixed with a wax(B) of a melting point of 50W100°C in a proportion of 2W40wt% on the basis of the solid content of the dispersion(A). In case the solubility of the foregoing unsaturated monomer exceeds 0.3wt%, the film of the copolymer thus obtained is lowered in its water repellency and water resistance and also its compatibility with the wax(B) emulsion is lowered, thus resulting in the impairment of mixture stability.
