Design of Polarization Reconfigurable Antenna Using Characteristic Mode

2019
In this paper, a novel polarization-reconfigurable antenna has been designed based on the theory of characteristic mode (CM). A square patch with an I-shaped slot, which has two LP orthogonal characteristic modes with the same modal significance and 90° characteristic angle difference at 2.4GHz is used as the main radiator. The proposed antenna can be reconfigured by exciting the different combinations of the two modes with a reconfigurable feeding network. A $1\times 4$ antenna array is designed for the demonstration of array application. Simulated results show good performance of the proposed antenna design.
