Factors that may influence the estradiol receptor assay in human tissues: Sex hormone binding globulin and endogenous steroids

1979
Abstract The influence of endogenous steroids and of sex hormone binding globulin (SHBG) on the assay of estradiol receptors in human breast carcinomas and uterine carcinomas was measured. Endogenous steroids were removed by charcoal and the binding sites of sex hormone binding globulin were saturated with dihydrotestosterone. The effect of sex hormone binding globulin or of endogenous steroids on the estradiol receptor assay is not great on average, but may be significant in individual cases.
