The invention discloses an eMMC (embedded multimedia card) controller based on an FPGA (field programmable gate array), and a working method of the eMMC controller. The eMMC controller comprises an initialization module, a main control module, an eMMC interface logic module, a data processing module and a clock control module, wherein the initialization module is in two-way communication with the eMMC interface logic module; the main control module is in two-way communication with the eMMC interface logic module and the data processing module respectively; and the clock control module is connected with the initialization module, the main control module and the eMMC interface logic module respectively. During the working course, the initialization module is communicated with an upper layer application system; the main control module is in two-way communication with the upper layer application system; the eMMC interface logic module and the data processing module are in two-way communication with an eMMC chip; the data processing module is in two-way communication with the upper layer application system by an external cache; and the eMMC controller has the advantages that the eMMC controller is high in generality, and can read and write at a high speed, and an interface is convenient to operate.
