The invention provides a method and a device for locating software faults. The method includes determining locating start time; acquiring a system environment at the locating start time; reconstructing a running state of software from the locating start time to fault occurrence time in the system environment at the locating start time; determining problems causing a software fault according to the reconstructed running state. The device comprises a determining module, an acquiring module, a reconstructing module and an analyzing module. According to the scheme, the method and the device have the advantages that the software faults can be automatically located, so that users can be assisted in realizing the operation problems, and software research and development personnel can be assisted in acquiring defects of software designs.
