Research on Quadruple D coil with High Misalignment Tolerance for Wireless Power Transfer

In wireless power transfer (WPT) system, the misalignment of transmitting and receiving coils is inevitable, which reduces the coupling coefficient and efficiency of the coils. However, the existing coils, such as double D (DD), have good misalignment tolerance in only one direction. In order to solve this problem, a novel quadruple D coil with high misalignment tolerance in multi directions is proposed. Firstly, the mutual inductance theory of the coil is deduced, and then the magnetic flux density of the coil is simulated by JMAG software. Finally, an experimental platform is built to measure the mutual inductance when the coil is misaligned. The analysis and comparison with DD type and rectangular coil verify the effectiveness of the proposed coil.
