Comorbidity of Bipolar Disorder In An Adolescent With Asperger Disorder

2012
Asperger disorder (AD) is a subtype of pervasive developmental disorders. In addition to lifelong difficulties in social relationships and interactions, individuals with AD may frequently suffer from other psychiatric disorders. Presence of comorbid psychiatric disorders is particularly important since it aggravates the clinical picture and psychosocial functioning while complicating diagnostic and treatment procedures. There are a limited number of studies on bipolar disorder comorbidty in adolescents with AD. In this article, clinical features and diagnostic challenges of an adolescent patient diagnosed with AD who had developed bipolar disorder were planned to be discussed.
