An Investigation Study Based on Emerging Demand of Electric Unicycle Vehicles

2015
This paper reviews the designing and controlling of seat less electric unicycle vehicles which are driven by brushless direct current motor controlled by a microcontroller. The initiative of designing the unicycle is to provide a portable mode of transportation for short distance travelling. This review paper also focuses on the use of electric vehicles providing good efficiency and pollution control. The design includes a 48V and 250W brushless direct current motors. Acceleration is given by rider's body inclination. The fabrication for frame is done with carbon steel pipes. It was seen that the top speed of the cycle was 15 km h -1 and could run up to 5 km in a single charge. Furthermore, best velocity of the wheelchair was 30 km h -1 . The total weight of the design was 13 kg and the weight carrying capacity was approximately 75 kg. Brushless direct current (BLDC) motor had greater efficiency, firm response, weight, precise and accurate control, high dependability, maintenance free procedure, brushless assembly and less in size. Moreover, Li- ion batteries were very efficient and provided a very good assistance to the motor.
