SYNTHESIS AND CHARACTERIZATION OF TERNARY COMPLEXES OF RARE EARTH WITH 3-HEXENEDIACID AND 1,10-PHENANTHROLINE

2008
Ternary rare earth complexes RE2L3Phen·4H2O(RE=Sm3+,Eu3+,Tb3+,Dy3+) have been synthesized through the reaction of rare earth chloride with 3-Hexenediacid(H2L) and 1,10-Phenanthroline(Phen) in alcohol. The composition and fluorescence properties of the complexes are characterized by means of elemental analysis, complex titration,IR and fluorescent spectra. Results show that the fluorescent intensity of the ternary rare earth(Eu and Tb) complexes is greatly enhanced by the ligands, which have the ability of sensitizing the luminescene of Eu3+ and Tb3+.Fluorescent intensity of the other two ternary rare earth(Sm and Dy) complexes is rather weak, which means that the ligands cannot well sensitize the luminescence of Sm3+ and Dy3+ to give out intense fluorescence.
