Considering modern medicine’s dependence on technology in the diagnosis and treatment of nonpenetrating chest trauma, tremendous admiration of and appreciation for our predecessors is derived from an historical review of their achievements before the advent of radiology. This discussion highlights important milestones and interesting events in the evolution of our knowledge of nonpenetrating chest trauma.
